ArtWorks in Progress:

Turning Baltimore’s Construction Fences to Outdoor Galleries

Every construction site in Baltimore is a missed opportunity. For months, or even years, these sites are visual dead zones—blank walls that breed blight and disconnect neighborhoods.

ArtWorks in Progress is our innovative solution. We partner with developers, contractors, and community stakeholders to transform temporary construction fencing and barriers into vibrant, large-scale public art galleries. This initiative turns disruptive development into a platform for civic pride, providing paid commissions for Baltimore's artists and creating dynamic cultural experiences on our city's streets.

Nosreme Baltimore offers a complete, turnkey solution for developers and community partners. We manage the entire process, from curation to completion:

  • Artist Curation: We select professional Baltimore artists through a community-informed process, ensuring the highest artistic quality and local relevance.

  • Project Management: We handle all logistics, including artist contracts, materials procurement, and installation scheduling.

  • Community Engagement: We facilitate workshops and artist talks, turning the mural into a moment for community connection and dialogue.

A Turnkey Solution for Creative Placemaking.

Inspired by Global Innovation

The "ArtWorks in Progress" model is inspired by successful international initiatives like A-FENCE in Berlin, Germany. This award-winning project proved that activating construction sites with art reduces vandalism, enhances public space, and generates positive media attention for developers.

By adapting this model for Baltimore, we are joining a global movement that recognizes the power of temporary art to create lasting community value. We are not just covering a fence; we are building a canvas for our city's story.

We invests directly in Baltimore artists—providing stipends, high-visibility platforms—while transforming overlooked construction sites because every fence is a Canvas

In 2026, Nosreme Baltimore will launch the pilot cycle of ArtWorks in Progress, commissioning 2–3 Baltimore artists to create large-scale original works for display at a prominent construction site. The exhibition will open with a curator-led tour and artist talk, creating opportunities for deeper public engagement.

We are currently seeking anchor partners, sponsors and supporters to help launch ArtWorks in Progress to secure a long-term city—wide construction projects into cultural opportunities and elevating Baltimore’s artists to new audiences.

The Pilot Year.

For developers, contractors, and community funders, partnering on "ArtWorks in Progress" is a high-visibility, high-impact investment. The benefits include:

  • Enhanced Community Goodwill: Move from being the source of disruption to a celebrated patron of the local arts.

  • Positive Media Attention: Generate powerful, positive press that showcases your commitment to Baltimore.

  • A More Beautiful & Secure Site: A curated art installation is a natural deterrent to illegal tagging and creates a safer, more welcoming pedestrian experience.

A tax-deductible sponsorship of $25,000 funds the entire project, including a professional artist commission, a paid student apprenticeship, all materials, and project management.
